What is Time-of-Use (TOU) Pricing?
Time-of-Use pricing means your electricity costs different amounts depending on when you use it.
How It Works
- Off-Peak (10pm-7am): $0.15-0.20/kWh
- Shoulder (7am-4pm, 9pm-10pm): $0.25-0.30/kWh
- Peak (4pm-9pm): $0.40-0.60/kWh
Why This Matters for Batteries
Without TOU pricing, batteries save you ~$0.30/kWh minus the $0.08/kWh feed-in tariff = $0.22/kWh.
With TOU pricing, batteries save you ~$0.50/kWh (peak rate) minus $0.08/kWh = $0.42/kWh.
That's nearly DOUBLE the value! 🔋⚡
Should You Switch?
TOU pricing is best if you:
- ✓ Are away during the day (work/school)
- ✓ Use most electricity in evening
- ✓ Have or plan to get a battery
- ✓ Can shift some usage to off-peak (dishwasher, laundry)
